FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES -- EMCO High Voltage Corporation in Northern California's Sutter Creek was one of four employers honored today at the fourth annual Governor's Older Worker Recognition Awards luncheon, hosted by the California Task Force for Employment of Older Workers.
Nine individual older workers, including one chosen for a Special Commendation, and three other Special Awards, also were presented during the event.
Thomas P. Nagle, Undersecretary of the California Health and Welfare Agency, presented the Governor's Awards to each of the four employers. All were chosen for their exceptionally fine hiring, training, retention and promotional opportunities for older workers.
Members of the California Task Force for Employment of Older Workers found the Corporation's hiring policy, however, the most important factor when making their recommendation for the award. That philosophy was explained by Richard J. Ormsby, EMCO's Director of Operations: Older workers are "valued members of the management and manufacturing teams. Their input is solicited, their advice is carefully considered, and considerable deference is paid to their wisdom," Ormsby said. At least four older workers hold executive or management leadership positions at EMCO.
About 200 guests attended the event, held at the Sheraton Grande Hotel in Los Angeles. The California Task Force for Employment of Older Workers consists of 11 volunteers who are committed equally to improving employment and training opportunities for "older workers," people 40 and above, and raising public awareness of the sterling characteristics of older workers. It works in conjunction with the State Job Training Coordinating Council, the California Department of Aging, and the Employment Development Department.
